Contest Details

About

The IT Vision Group, Government of Karnataka in association with SAP Labs India proudly presents impressIT “state level Proof of Concept IT Solution” contest to be held in 15th edition of the BangaloreIT.Biz conference on October 17-19,2012. This contest would provide a platform to young engineering students in Karnataka, where they can bring forward their ideas in the space of IT and showcase the same under the mentorship of industry experts.
The contest will be held in three stages:

Prelims:

From the entries submitted by the students, top 50 entries will be selected by an evaluation panel based on certain criteria.

Each of the top 50 entries will be assigned an industry expert from the relevant areas as their mentor, from whom they will receive focused guidance and support to build and present Proof of Concept.

Mains:

All top 50 entries will be invited to Bangalore for the “Mains” round to present their Proof of Concept to the evaluation panel. The panel will announce the top 10 ideas for the “Finals” round.

Finals:

The top 10 teams will present and demo their solution live to the Judges and Venture Capitalists during the BangaloreIT.biz event on October 19th,2012. Winners of the Finals round will receive prizes and felicitation during the event.

ENTRANTS

The Contest is open to all Engineering students of Karnataka.

EVALUATION CRITERIA

Ideas submitted in Prelims will be evaluated by a panel of elite Judges from Cisco, Infosys, Microsoft, Motorola, Mphasis, SAP and Texas Instruments. Evaluation criteria will include

  • Idea relevance
  • Novelty and innovation
  • Potential market impact

The same set of Judges will also evaluate in the “mains” round.

TERMS AND CONDITIONS

  • Participants from the same college may participate individually or may form teams consisting of up to three (3) persons. However, Participants cannot participate in more than one team.
  • Participants should adhere to the timelines specified on the website
  • No changes in ideas are encouraged once the idea is submitted online.
  • By participating, you agree to the decisions of the Judges, whose decisions are final and binding in all respects.

AWARDS

The top 10 teams will get a chance to present and demo their solution live in the “Finals” round during the BangaloreIT.biz event in October 2012.

Winners of the “Finals” round will receive prizes and felicitation.

FAQS

Team Structure

  1. Can the team members be changed after registration/idea submission is done?
    Students should finalize their teams before submitting their ideas. Subsequent changes in team structure are thoroughly discouraged. In case of an emergency situation, exceptions to this must be approved by impressIT program chair.

  2. Can students across the batches/courses team up to form a 3 member team?
    Yes, students across batches/courses can team up.

  3. Can a student be part of more than one team?
    No, a student can be part of only one team.

  4. Can students from non-IT branches participate in the contest?
    Yes, the contest is open to all engineering students in the State of Karnataka. But the ideas submitted should belong to IT solutions space across any Application/System Software (e.g., – Business Applications, Networking, Mobility, Embedded Systems, Operating Systems/ Middleware, Data Management, Graphics, Multimedia).

Project Execution Infrastructure

  1. Can the students take support from impressIT to procure necessary IT infrastructure, including Hardware (for e.g. a microprocessor Chip) and licensed Software, to build a demo-able solution?
    Once got selected to the “Mains” round, students can contact impressIT for IT infrastructure requirements, which you find difficult to procure yourself. We shall try our best to help you in this regard with support from our tie-up with leading IT companies in Bangalore, subject to the availability and feasibility of the requested software and/or hardware.

  2. Will impressIT arrange temporary laptops/PCs for the teams?
    No, impressIT will not arrange laptops/PCs for the teams.

Mentorship

  1. Can the students choose their professors as mentors?
    No. Students are encouraged to have their mentors from the IT industry assigned by impressIT program. Additionally, they can get the guidance from their professors as well.

  2. How should the communication between students and mentors take place? Will the mentors travel to the city of the college to meet the group any time?What if we(the students)feel the need to have a face-to-face communication with the mentors? Will that be arranged?
    Students shall contact the mentors via his email ID and phone number. Once the mentor assignment happens, he will let the students know of his preferred way of communication. If the mentor and students see a need for a physical meeting, the same shall be arranged by impressIT program.
